Digi-Key – Embedded RF modules for wireless Zigbee applications (A000007)

Arduino’s XBee family of embedded RF modules, which provides OEMs with a common footprint shared by multiple platforms, is now available from Digi-Key.

Platforms include multipoint and ZigBee/Mesh topologies, and both 2.4GHz and 900MHz solutions. OEMs deploying the XBee can substitute one XBee for another, depending upon dynamic application needs, with minimal development, reduced risk, and shorter time-to-market.

The Xbee shield allows an Arduino board to communicate wirelessly using Zigbee. It is based on the Xbee module from MaxStream. The module can communicate up to 100 feet indoors or 300 feet outdoors (with line-of-sight). It can be used as a serial/USB replacement or put into a command mode and configured for a variety of broadcast and mesh networking options, says the company.
