Emerson – High-efficiency bulk front end AC/DC PSU range expanded (DS1050)
Oct 18 2010 - Power [More Power Articles]A new 1050W model has been introduced by Emerson Network power, expanding its line of bulk front end AC/DC power supplies that meet the Climate Savers Computing gold standard for efficiency. The new DS1050-3 has a power density of 19W per cubic inch and can achieve a high typical conversion efficiency of 92 percent at 50 percent full load.
The company’s front-end power supply line-up offers ratings up to 3kW and feature industry-leading efficiency and density in standard 1U, 2U or 3U form factors for applications using distributed power architectures, such as computing, storage, networking, datacom, and test and measurement systems.
The DS1050-3 generates a main payload output of 12VDC and an auxiliary output of 3.3VDC, or 5VDC as an option, for powering standby circuitry. It features a wide 90 to 264VAC input voltage range and employs active power factor correction to minimize input harmonic current distortion and ensure compliance with the international EN61000-3-2 standard, with a power factor of 0.99 typical. To simplify incorporating the new power supply in equipment designs, it accepts the widely available IEC C14 ac input power connector.
Digitally programmable, the Emerson Network Power DS1050-3 is equipped with an I2C interface available with industry-standard PMBus communications protocol. It also contains a memory device (EEPROM) that is pre-programmed with data about the unit, including its type, serial number and date of manufacture, to facilitate replacement in the field.
With active single-wire current sharing that operates from 10 percent to 100 percent of load, multiple supplies can be easily paralleled for very high-current applications. The DS1050-3 is hot pluggable, has no minimum load requirement, and incorporates low-loss internal ORing Field Effect Transistors (FETs) on its main 12V output, for fault-tolerant and N+1 redundant applications.
The DS1050-3 incorporates fan cooling with automatic speed control and has an ambient operating temperature range of -10C to +50C, with 50 percent derating at +70C. It is comprehensively protected against overload and overvoltage conditions and delivers a demonstrated mean time between failures (MTBF) of more than 500,000 hours. The power supply meets the rigorous EN55022-B and FCC part 15 Class B conducted and radiated emissions standards, and holds a full complement of international safety certifications: UL/cUL, NEMKO+ CB, EN60950, CE Mark and China CCC, says the company.
