Sherborne – Miniature high-output universal load cells offer +10V full-range output
Jul 31 2009 - Subs & Systems [More Subs & Systems Articles]A family of miniature strain gauge load cells, designed to measure both tension and compression loads, has been launched in North America, by Sherborne sensors. Series SS5000 is specially designed with integral amplification, offering users a high accuracy measurement output of +10VDC over their full range. Most load cells on the market of this type offer only mV output, says the company.
With units weighing just eight ounces (250 grams nominal), the size and performance characteristics of Series SS5000 allow them to be used in a variety of applications, including materials testing; medical device design and testing; QC and laboratory testing; R&D projects; renewable energy systems; consumer products testing; robotics; general force measurement; weighing and scale-related applications, and many others.
Series SS5000 offers four measurement ranges, from ±250 to ±2,000N (+3000N maximum), with units occupying a footprint of 44.5cm in diameter, 31 cm in length, and reliably operating over a temperature range of -25C to +75C. Units feature an internal stainless steel load cell element, which offers unusually high resistance to overload, shock and corrosion. The Wheatstone bridge design is fully compensated for temperature effects on zero output and sensitivity. Because of their highly durable construction, Series SS5000 has superior long-term stability and minimal effects from small off-axis loads. All load cells come standard with an integral multi-conductor cable, and male thread studs for load attachment, says the company.
