Mouser – High-reliability top-mounted LEDs for harsh environments

Power PLCC-4 surface-mount LEDs, manufactured by Avago Technologies, are now available from global distributor, Mouser.

The HSMx-A46x high-brightness LEDs come in single-chip packaging that produces higher light output compared to PLCC-2 SMT LEDs. The series is seen as ideal for applications including instrument panel backlighting, dome lighting, turn signals, and centre-height mounted stoplights (CHMSL) in automobiles, as well as interior / exterior variable message signage. Other industrial applications include pushbutton and signal lighting

As an extension of the standard flat top PLCC-4 SMT LEDs, the HSMxA46x has a lens device that provides a narrow 50 degree viewing angle with matched radiation pattern to meet focused radiation and high brightness application requirements. The package design, coupled with the component materials, allow the LEDs to provide reliable performance over a wide temperature range.

In addition to its long life and compact size, the series can easily be soldered with conventional surface mounting techniques to minimize production costs. The package is qualified to a JEDEC moisture-sensitive level rating of 2A, says the company.
