TDK – UWB antenna eases circuit layout and set-up
Aug 31 2007 - Subs & Systems [More Subs & Systems Articles]A surface-mount ceramic chip antenna for Ultra Wideband (UWB) applications has been introduce by TDK. The ANT1085-4R1-01A offers enhanced in-band impedance matching stability allowing for smaller board dimensions, reduced part count and easier circuit layout, says the company.
The ANT1085-4R1-01A is a broad-band antenna, achieving VSWR below 3:1 across the entire low-band UWB frequency range (3.1 to 5.2GHz) and has been specifically designed with ease of integration in mind. The antenna’s unique structure allows for a reduced ground plane dependency as well as a smaller PCB keep-out area for components & ground plane, enabling a more compact end-product design. Over 100MHz margin at the upper and lower band edges eliminates the need for board-specific impedance matching.
For optimal performance in mobile applications the ANT1085-4R1-01A achieves class-leading Pattern Average Gain (PAG) across the frequency band. It also exceeds the performance of a number of existing UWB antennas in low-band applications, according to an independent survey.
The ANT1085-4R1-01A UWB ceramic chip antenna measures 10mm x 8.5mm, with a low profile of 1.2mm, and requires no dedicated external components. It is available in tape and reel with standard packaging quantities 1500pcs/reel. Sample quantities are also available on request, says the company.
