An integrated distributed network analysis and monitoring solution is now available, from Fluke, providing network operation professionals with centralized vision and troubleshooting capability of both local and remote networks from the network operations center (NOC).
This allows network managers to take a proactive approach to managing the distributed enterprise, providing higher levels of service to users and dramatically reducing mean time to repair (MTTR), all while lowering costs, says the company.
As remote offices bring goods and services closer to customers and users, network managers must cope with increasingly distributed networks. Forrester analyst Laurie M.Orlov reports that “although remote workers are satisfied with IT support, these users require more attention from IT than their on-site counterparts do; their work productivity is disproportionately affected by system interruptions and technology changes.” (September 14, 2005: ‘IT Needs To Do A Better Job Communicating With Remote Workers’.)
Fluke Networks’ Distributed Network Analysis and Monitoring Solution helps reduce interruptions and outages by creating a central console view, giving total network visibility from the NOC.
“Central management of branch offices is key to the distributed enterprise - 45% of organizations manage their branches centrally; another 19% manage centrally and use service providers for some tasks,” said Robin Gareiss, executive vice-president and senior founding partner, Nemertes Research. “Nearly 90% of employees work away from headquarters, and maintaining their productivity requires a solid IT infrastructure and centralized tools to manage it.”
There are also significant cost savings involved. According to Nemertes Research, remote troubleshooting, combined with the ability to view a problem from the NOC and drill down to find the cause, is approximately 10 times more efficient than travelling to a remote location.
Distributed Vision and Centralized Analysis – At the core of Fluke Networks’ Distributed Network Analysis and Monitoring Solution is the OptiView Server, which collects and correlates detailed performance information gathered from OptiView Workgroup Analyzers and OptiView WAN Analyzers placed at remote locations.
The system enables staff to see what is happening on remote parts of the network, and troubleshoot as if they were there. By identifying the root cause of a problem and fixing it from the NOC, MTTR can be reduced by as much as 90%. Reducing the time to resolve an issue will have a direct bearing on revenue-producing activities, and lead to significant increases in customer satisfaction and competitiveness, says the company.
